Film: Submarine (2011)

Doesn't this film look so good? It's a story that follows precocious and offbeat Oliver Tate as he tries to lose his virginity, and save his parents' marriage.

My latest nail polish crush. :) And love that Essie is now available at Tarjay!

Have a dreamy Memorial Day weekend!

I practically leaped out of bed this morning with excitement for the 3-day weekend! Us New Yorkers, are so insanely starved for summertime activities, and weather that the city feels electric with anticipation. :) Alex + I are planning to attend a few BBQs, but the real treat for us will be Sunday when, inspired by this post, we'll be going on a Staycation to the Gansevoort Hotel down the street from our place. We've never stayed locally so it will be fun to play tourists in our own city, not to mention having cocktails poolside. :)

Have a playful, yummy 3-day weekend, everyone! See you Tuesday! xo!

Nose Wars

(Anjelica Huston. photo via The Vine)

I am going to make a bold move and fess up to something about myself...I have [had] nose issues.

I'm not really sure when it began, but I assume it was in my years developing into an angtsy teen when someone along the way commented on it's rotundness. But for those who know me (and think I'm crazy) let me first tell you that I have admired so many women for the beauty and uniqueness of their nose: round, pointy, broken, and flat, I've swooned over them all. So then why didn't I admire my own? And so I recently thought to myself, get over it and embrace it. And now, after some time and self-affirmation, I can say that I have.

We all have our imperfections, but nothing is more beautiful than a woman who carries those imperfections perfectly.

I feel very empowered by this, and thought I would share for any readers who have similar qualms about certain physical features. Maybe it comes with age, but if that's the case, I'm looking forward to the next few years. ♥

Other women's noses I adore: Sofia Coppola, Anjelica Huston, Rossy De Palma (muse of Pedro Almodovar), Barb, and now, myself.

The Sassy Ladies of Carole Wilmet

Happy Thursday, my lovelies!

Today I stumbled upon this Belgian artist, Carole Wilmet, over on Beautiful/Decay and I am completely smitten with her illustrations. Her work is inspired by nature, the fashion industry and vintage photographs. I just love how the girls in her drawings all look so sassy! Totally fun and cute.

On another note, we're sorry our posts have been so sporadic lately. The three of us have gotten super busy on a new project (more on that later!) and haven't had as much time to post. But stay tuned for more info on that in the next month or so. In the meantime, we'll try to get back to our regular scheduled programming. ♥

Film: Bridesmaids (2011)

During our work trip this past weekend, Lisa and I took a little break and saw Bridesmaids. We'd been hearing mixed reviews, but we love Kristen Wiig so decided to check the film out for ourselves. Well, we loved it! It's hilarious, sweet and even touching. Yes, it's a little long (125 minutes!), but there are some really funny scenes that keep the film moving.

The film follows "Annie (Kristen Wiig), a maid of honor whose life unravels as she leads her best friend, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), and a group of colorful bridesmaids on a wild ride down the road to matrimony".

Original, funny + entertaining, if you haven't yet, go see!... Bridesmaids

Host + Hostess Gifts: Give before or after your stay?

Seesters! (That mimosa is clearly making me a bit loopy. :)

Lisa with Gina

Hi Friends! Lisa and I just got back from a quick work trip to Miami, and we were lucky enough to stay with our sweet friend Gina Pina, who was such a lovely hostess.

Lisa and I got her Gwyneth Paltrow's new cookbook, My Father's Daughter as a hostess gift (which looks really great btw), but we couldn't agree on when to give the gift. Lisa wanted to give it upon arrival, I wanted to give it on the last day.

According to Mother-of-Manners Emily Post, there's no right or wrong, but I'm wondering do you, friends, have a preference for when to give your gifts? xo

Have a Dreamy Weekend!

I was perusing Refinery 29 for some hair inspiration and came across Tilde jewelry designer Claudia Martinez's amazing tresses. I love the way her locks have those side swept soft curls. And her chic white blazer really ties it all together! Just had to share that. ;)

On another note, what are your plans for the weekend, DOPT'ers? Charlie and I are heading up to Cape Cod for the weekend where his family has a vacation home and are graciously letting us stay in. It's somewhat of a drive, but luckily we don't mind and see it as a chance to hear some new tunes (recommendations welcome!)

See you Monday...if Earth still exists! (no worries. The guy behind the prediction has an IQ of 95, below average. Teehee.)

Link time...

Funniest video I have ever seen done with a dog.

For my NY readers: I saw Sleep No More Tuesday, the immersive theater experience, I highly recommend it!

Now online, T Magazine Design and Living Summer 2011. It's awesome.

Cutest thing ever! This guy does his girlfriend's makeup (she looks slightly terrified!)

Pretty print. The distance between you and I.

I want to put these in my yard!

Have a dreamy weekend. ♥

Greetings from Los Angeles!

Hello, lovelies! I didn't mention this earlier, but I have been in LA the last couple of days. And let me tell you, it has been amazing! I will write a more detailed post in the next week or so, but in the meantime I wanted to share with you a review of a really great restaurant out here. My friend Brooke (pictured above) took me out last night to Real Food Daily and it was exactly the type of LA cuisine I was looking for. Healthy, fresh and local (and affordable!) After gushing about it to some of my other friends about it there, I did learn that there are a ton of other equally amazing places just like it, but since it was the one I tried, just wanted to share it with you. If you're LA based or ever find yourself in these parts of town, I highly recommend.

More to come in the next few days!

Dreamy Escape: Hartwood in Tulum, Mexico

Guys, today I'm doing some hardcore daydreaming about traveling! It must be all the rain NYC has been getting, which has totally thrown my whole summer mojo off:( But I came across a recent post in The Selby, featuring Eric Werner and Mya Henry, chef and restaraunt owners of restaurant Hartwood in Tulum, Mexico, and now I'm really excited about the prospect of traveling there someday. It reminds me of lazy days on the beach, taking a sunburned nap, and going out for a hardy dinner. Doesn't that fish look amazing?

And I wouldn't mind staying here. :)

Have a dreamy weekend!

Our post from yesterday was taken down from Blogger. Que pasa, Blogger? So here is the link to the awesome blog we mentioned until the post comes back up.

Have a great weekend all! xo

Blogs We Love: Margaret + Joy

Margaret + Joy are amazing commercial directors with a true love for food. So it makes perfect sense that they just launched their very own blog. The above photo is their most recent post, which is a recent delivery of lavendar ice cream from MilkMade (drool). I want to make everything featured on their blog! Including a lobster roll from The Lunch Truck in the northern tip of Long Island.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Dinner + Friends

My friends Persis and Ryan just moved into the cutest apartment this month and last night they invited me over for dinner. Ryan made an awesome crab salad (way better than your boring ol' tuna), Persis roasted potatoes and I brought the wine. I love doing dinners with friends on weeknights, makes the week go by so much faster.

Congrats on the beautiful new space, guys! xo.

Tuesday Daydreaming

This is where I want to be right now.

Man About Town

My roommate just introduced me to this little video for the men's lifestyle site, Man About Town and I'm totally smitten. It features the Spanish freestyle skater, Kilian Martin (dreamboat!), music by Ricky Nelson and the creative art direction of Atelier Franck Durand. And after seeing it, all I can say is, I wish all skate videos looked this good.

This weekend...

We celebrated our Mom on the sunny roof deck with baked eggs, turkey bacon + french toast...

And lounged around the house with Willow. :) How was your weekend? Happy Monday! xo

Have a Dreamy Weekend!

Alright, I know you must still be recuperating from celebrating Cinco de Mayo last night, but don't forget it's Kentucky Derby weekend and Mother's Day! We probably won't be doing anything for the Derby, but we are definitely celebrating our mama on Sunday. Once again, we'll head over to Claudia and Alex's amazing rooftop for a delicious all-day feast. Because my mom loves arugula so much, I think I'll make this yummy looking strawberry-arugula salad with ricotta. Doesn't it look refreshing and tasty!

And now, some fun links for your weekend.

Good morning, Sunshine...

(Ms. Willow finally goes to sleep)

I'm slightly sleep-deprived this morning so thought I'd say hello in my haze. This weekend Alex + I are dog sitting for some dear friends of ours. But the poor doggie, Willow, was missing her parents so much last night that she stayed up whimpering, keeping us awake. (Alex walked her at 2am to calm her nerves!) Poor thing. Luckily, she's mellowed out a bit this morning. That's her above finally snoozing. :) xo

Happy Hour: Cinco de Mayo

Today is Cinco de Mayo! Any fun plans for happy hour tonight?

Since it is a Mexican holiday and all, I thought today would be a good day to share with you some fun recipes I received from an event last week. The event planner, Cathy Riva and Sauza Tequila invited me to a "Ladies Who Brunch" party and it was awesome. The event was held at Meet at the Apartment, a very cool meeting and event space in Soho. It has beautiful decor, the kind that makes you want to redecorate your whole apartment. And as soon as I walked in, I was greeted with delicious little colorful macaroons that had our name tags on them. Adorable! Cathy also created custom cocktails for the event and considering what today is, I might make these for myself and my lady friends tonight.

The Rainbow Trend

I think Claudia may have gotten this rainbow trend into my head because all this week, I have been stumbling upon very cool rainbow themed ideas. I am hoping to have a party soon just so I can make some of these fun and colorful things myself. A Rainbow Memorial Day BBQ anyone?

Maybe because it's so gloomy here in New York today, I am still craving color (see yesterday's post :). Which is why this Japanese building caught my eye. Can you believe it's a bank?

Colored Jeans: Yay or Nay?

In today's Yay or Nay survey, I wanted to ask you, peeps... colored jeans: yay or nay? I usually stick to the basic dark denim because it works the best for my body type (leetle Guatemalan legs, big booty from God knows where :), but this past weekend I almost ventured and bought - gasp! Purple jeans! But at the last minute I wimped out, and put them back on the rack. But this sexy new vid (above), for Ksubi Kolors, is really making the case for colored jeans. What do you guys think? Would love to know! See a fun colored jeans slideshow here. xo
