Minty Fresh (Jeans!)

This morning I am swooning over Jenn Lore's new mint jeans. I've posted about my hesitation with colored jeans before, but I think pastels are a great way to incorporate Spring colors without going overboard. Yo quiero! What do you guys think? For only $49.00 you can get 'em here. :)

TGIF! Tonight, Charlie is playing a show with KNTRLR at this really great venue in Williamsburg called Public Assembly. It will be nice to unwind and listen to some good tunes! The rest of the weekend will be spent hanging with family, then on Sunday, Mad Men is back! Claudia is having a themed party...will I be a Joan or a Betty? Follow up photos to come. :)

How about you guys? Any Mad Men parties happening?

Eames: The Architect and the Painter

A few nights ago I Netflixed Eames: The Architect and the Painter, which is a documentary about the iconic design couple, Charles and Ray Eames, behind the Eames chair and major contributors to the world of architecture and design.

I knew very little about the designers beforehand other than having seen their famous chair in dozens of books, magazines and websites throughout my life. Their name is synonymous with timeless, beautiful and functional design. If you search for furniture on Craigslist or Ebay, you will undoubtedly see "Eames or Eames-inspired" sprinkled throughout item descriptions. Sometimes this is accurate and other times, the seller is just trying to pull a fast one (you are too smart for this though, I know.)

What's interesting about the doc is that in addition to discussing the artists' work, you get a glimpse into their personal lives and idiosyncratic behavior. Interviews with former employees and colleagues show the couple very honestly and you get a sense that despite their design aesthetic being so clean and modern, the couple was pretty quirky. For example, one night they hosted a dinner party in their fabulous home and for dessert, they brought out a beautiful flower arrangement. A "visual treat." One guest was so annoyed and still hungry that he left to go to Dairy Queen. Can you imagine?!

If you have a chance to watch this, let me know what you think! Would love to hear your thoughts.

Style Cues: Jane Birkin

With spring in full bloom, I was thinking about some style icons who exude the essence of breeziness and chicness. First to come to mind is Jane Birkin, of course! I did a little digging and found the above photos, all of which display her keen sense of style, which feels young + sexy at the same time.

Here are a few items I thought were Birkin'esque:

What style icons do you look to for style inspiration?

Breakfast Sunday: Soft Boiled Eggs

We don't usually post on Sundays, but I couldn't help myself. I had a craving for soft boiled eggs this morning, so I looked up a recipe (yes, there is a timing strategy!) and actually perfected the meal.

I used this simple step-by-step to make sure my eggs didn't overcook. And voila! Two perfect eggs with a side of toast, lightly buttered. :)

Have a Dreamy Weekend!

Now that the weather is getting warmer, the weeks seem to be flying by. Does anyone else feel that way? Well, it's Friday again and that can only mean one thing. Time for some fun, rest and relaxation. I, for one, will be working most of the weekend, but on my free time, I am going to make this for a good hearty breakfast, and maybe try to catch this movie, which looks pretty funny.

How about you? Big plans for the weekend? I can't wait until it's warm enough to start grilling!

And now for some links.

This looks like a nice way to spend your Sunday.

This tumblr will have you laughing so hard you'll cry. Or maybe that's just me.

Lena Dunham's show, Girls, is going to be the best thing ever. We can't wait.

Pretty spring flower.

These are more than what I'd typically spend, but I think worth the splurge. Thoughts?

Have a great weekend! ♥

Just found these perfect linen bags. This is exactly what I need! Whether for toting groceries or beach towels for my summer trips out to the Rockaways. Just love the type and minimal colors. ♥

Film: Friends With Kids (2012)

This weekend my husband Alex and I caught the film Friends With Kids. With a stellar cast including some of my fave comedic actresses, Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig, I knew it was going to be funny, but I didn't expect it to be as hilarious as it was.

The film centers on college buds Julie (Jennifer Westfeldt, also the writer and director!) and Jason (Adam Scott), who are now in their late thirties, and getting bored with the Manhattan dating scene. All of their college pals have coupled up, had babies and moved to Brooklyn, but their marriages have taken a hit due to babydom.

Julie and Jason both want a child, but haven't met "the one." So they concoct an idea - why not have a baby with each other, stay "just friends," and split the childcare responsibilities 50/50? They'll skip over the stresses of trying to keep up a marriage while gaining all the benefits of parenthood. Their plan seems to work - at first. Until post-baby Julie falls in love with Jason.

It's a bit of a gimmick but SO much fun to watch. Even my husband Alex, who usually scoffs at romantic comedies was chuckling all along. (It helps that the dudes in the film are completely relatable.) Jon Hamm gives a really funny performance. And look out for a hot Ed Burns who plays some serious Mommy catnip! :) I highly recommend checking out this film!

Have a Dreamy Weekend!

Finally Friday, hallelujah! As I mentioned earlier this week, New York has had some really nice weather lately, but today it's a little chilly again. Truth be told, I am still kind of into it. Of course I'm excited for spring, but given the mild winter we've had, I am still appreciating the cloudy skies, the excuse to drink hot toddies, and curling up in bed Netflixing a movie (this is what I can't wait to see.) I also didn't wear tights enough this winter, so I feel like I need to do that soon before it's too late.

In addition to lounging in bed watching movies this weekend, I am also working at a new job (come visit if you're in NY) and possibly finishing a paint job I started a few weeks ago. Sometimes I am more productive than I pretend to be.

How about you? What are your plans this weekend? Is it already warm where you live?

And now some fun links to peruse this weekend.

Fascinating story of a couple that stays together after one of them has a sex change.

Coffee would taste better out of these mugs (via NYT.)

Another movie I really want to see.

I am seriously considering having this in my basement living room. So cozy and perfect for naps and reading.

If you're getting ready for swimsuit season, better not look at this. Try this instead.

Funny take on how to accessorize for your protection.

I just bought these lights from Areaware, but haven't quite yet figured out how to place them. Something like this could possibly work.

Perfect shoes for spring.

Have a great weekend! ♥

Is it Summer Yet?

I just got back from a wonderful lunch at Dumont with a dear friend and the walk home was so nice, I got giddy for summer. Not sure how it is where you live, but New York is in the 60s today. It is glorious! So of course, instead of coming back home to get some work done, I am shopping for swimsuits online. How cute are these? I am a big fan of one-pieces and love when I come across beautiful designs like these. Not all one-pieces have to be boring!

How about you? Do you ever wear one-pieces or do you prefer bikinis?

Pretty Girls in Prints: Art by Anna Higgie

A few days ago (while in Miami!), I was flipping through Illustration Now! 4 at the Taschen book store when I discovered the art work of Anna Higgie. She is a fairly prolific illustrator based in Bristol whose clients include Bloomingdales, Dazed & Confused, Nylon and Nordstrom. So there is perhaps a chance you've seen her work before.

Don't you love how Higgie makes her girls look feminine, mysterious and confident? I'm a new fan and lucky for me, she sells her work on Etsy.

Higgie also has more photos on her Facebook page and a cool interview on Bloginity. I am officially in love!

Spring is a comin'!

When we last wrote about espadrilles, I was tempted, but never got around to finding a pair I loved. But I just came across these two adorable pairs -- I just might have to take the plunge! Don't they look comfy and springy?

Colorful for your funky days and neutral for your chic days. :)

Have a dreamy weekend!

It is pretty dreary here in New York today. No sunshine and it's chilly. I just want to cozy up on my couch and drink hot cocoa, or go to the movies! But I'm looking forward to the weekend. I have a little creative project I'm brewing up for tomorrow morning and can't wait to share the outcome. :) Well that's if it comes out looking okay!

What are you guys up to this weekend?
