Carlos & Chiara: "Our Secrets to a Happy Marriage"

We're so excited to feature our third couple, Carlos and Chiara, for our special marriage series, "Secrets to a Happy Marriage!" This series is in honor of our film After the Wedding, a dramedy about the first year of marriage. If you haven't already, please check out our Kickstarter campaign and show your support. If you like these posts, we think you'll enjoy our film.

And now without further ado, Carlos and Chiara's incredibly sweet story! It'll make you bubbly inside. :)

The couple first met in middle school.

How long have you been married?
We got married nearly two years ago - August 20th, 2010.

How did you meet?
Chiara and I have known each other since we were 13. We went to middle school and high school together in Miami. We were never close friends, but I did have Chiara for a class our junior year where I developed a major crush on her. She was way out of my league - beautiful, tall, popular - so I did the grown up thing and kept it to myself. I was under five feet tall in ninth grade (and a little over my junior year), so naturally, she thought I was this cute tiny little thing.
Eight years after high school I moved to Philadelphia for graduate school. I had seen Chiara a few times over the years and she occasionally crossed my mind. One day, walking down the street in center city, I saw a beautifully familiar face walking toward me. It was like a scene out of a movie - here we are, over a thousand miles away from home in a new city on some random street, crossing paths. "Carlos?"she said. "Chiara?" I replied. I'll never forget that moment.

What is your secret to a happy marriage?
Love and Laughter.

What advice would you give a newlywed couple?
Push each other. Support one another. Compromise. Be adventurous. Laugh a lot. Always respect one another, and most importantly - love each other.

Thank you, Carlos and Chiara, for sharing your "Secrets to a Happy Marriage!"

You've made our day. :)
